Homework Assistance

For many children in the favela, homework is the hardest part of the school day. Crowded living situations, parents who work long hours and, in some families, parental illiteracy mean that a quiet table and an adult who can help are hard to find.

Our Homework Assistance program offers both. Away from the noise and bustle of the community, students have a calm space to concentrate and a dedicated EduMais team member to ask whenever they get stuck.

What Students Find Here

  • A calm space to concentrate. A safe, studious room away from the often hectic surroundings of the favela, where finishing schoolwork is possible.
  • Help when they are stuck. Our dedicated team members are there to explain a task and work through it together with the student.
  • Learning that lasts. What students learned at school that day gets practised straight away, so their academic progress keeps its momentum.

Firm and Kind

As outlined in Our Methodology, all our teaching is built on Positive Discipline and a trauma-informed approach. Homework support is no different: students are met with encouragement, and it is safe to try, make mistakes and try again.

Our team members know the road our students are on: each of them was once an EduMais student.

Weekly Homework Sessions

Every week, students can come to Homework Assistance at two locations:

  • Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo (PPG): Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays
  • Tabajaras: Saturdays

(to fill in: session times and age groups)

Like every EduMais program, Homework Assistance is free of charge.
