After-School Volunteer

Who we are looking for

As an after-school volunteer, you will be teaching our at-risk-kids the social and life skills they need to have a brighter future.

This is an important role where you will co-create and discuss lesson plans with our other dedicated after-school volunteers. As well as helping the kids with their homework, you will work to develop their Portuguese, English, and Maths skills. You will encourage their creativity through art, drama, and dance, and have fun playing games and sports with them. Lastly, you will help them to enjoy Rio’s many attractions by taking them out on exciting trips!

Volunteering in this precarious setting is a great way to both give to the children and enjoy yourself while doing it! You will truly make a difference and have a profound impact on our kids!

Responsibilities

  • Co-create and facilitate lesson plans based on our students’ needs
  • Help the kids with their homework and teach them new ways of thinking and creating
  • Co-create a loving and safe environment for our at-risk kids
  • Research, discuss and facilitate the implementation of Positive Discipline
  • Plan and organise trips to local places of interest
  • Tidy and clean the premises every day
  • Hold meetings with parents
  • Share EduMais’s mission and fundraising campaigns on social media/within your network

Qualifications

  • Intermediate level of Portuguese (essential)
  • Intermediate level of English
  • Pedagogical or Social Worker Background
  • Knowledge within areas like Art, Dance, Drama, Sport, Yoga etc.

Time commitment

  • 4 to 5 hours per week
  • 8 to 10 hours per week
  • 12 to 15 hours per week
  • 16 to 20 hours per week

Days of the week

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 13h00 – 17h00
  • It is possible to volunteer anywhere from just one to all four days

Duration

  • Minimum 3 months, preferably longer
  • Start dates: flexible but preferably February
