Why Volunteer Serious Game Design in the Favelas of Rio with EduMais?

As the world becomes increasingly technological, computer skills are no longer optional—they’re essential. Through EduMais, you can volunteer Serious Game Design in Rio and help underprivileged children in the favelas unlock future opportunities.

By volunteering as a Game Design teacher with EduMais, you’ll play a vital role in opening the digital world to our students. Beyond designing and creating games, you will guide them through the fundamentals of programming with GDevelop, coding, and problem-solving. You will also introduce them to creating art in Procreate and developing a marketing campaign. With your support, these young people gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in the 21st-century job market.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lessons following EduMais’s provided lesson plans
  • Teach students to create games with GDevelop
  • Guide students in creating animations and backgrounds using Procreate
  • Introduce marketing techniques and support them in launching a campaign
  • Teach programming, coding, and problem-solving skills
  • Encourage, motivate, and support students throughout the learning process
  • Foster teamwork and creativity in a positive and supportive environment

Qualifications

  • Minimum advanced Portuguese (fluency preferred)

  • Strong proficiency in computing/programming/digital marketing/app development or similar fields

  • Ability to communicate creatively with students who have limited English skills

  • A degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Engineering, or related area (preferred)

  • Previous teaching experience, ideally with underprivileged youth

Time commitment

  • Regular Program: 5 hours per week
  • Summer Camp: 16-24 hours per week/4 weeks

Days of the week

  • Flexible (working days and weekends)
  • During the Summer Camp: Tuesdays-Thursdays

Duration

  • Regular Program: 8-12 week course
  • Summer Camp in January for 4 weeks
